  • Earth Hour Saturday March 23 at 8:00

    March 23, 2013
    8:00 pmto9:30 pm

On Saturday March 23 the Roncesvalles Village BIA and RoncyWorks will be joined by the World Wildlife Fund to put on a great Earth Hour event in Roncesvalles Village.

The evening kicks off with two candlelight walks, one starting at the Revue Cinema, and the second starting at Grafton Parkette in Roncesvalles’ south end. Both walks assemble at 8:00 p.m.

We will be walking to the library, where we will be treated to an hour-long celebration of music and environmental awareness with performances by Liam Titcomb and others, free coffee and hot chocolate courtesy of Coffee And All That Jazz, and much more!

Join us, or join many diners in Roncesvalles Village as they once again “Do It In The Dark” by dining by candlelight in participating restaurants and cafés.

Join us at Smock Cafe at 287 Roncesvalles Avenue at 2:00 for a kids’ lantern-making session to prepare for the evening walk!

Roncesvalles Village Honoured at TABIA Awards Night

At the second annual TABIA (Toronto Association of BIAs) Awards Night, on November 13, the Roncesvalles Village BIA received two awards.

roncyworksawardsmalljpg.jpgRoncesvalles Village was nominated for a “Round of Applause” award by the Village of Islington BIA for its work with RoncyWorks, a community group dedicated to maintaining a clean and beautiful street. The Village of Islington BIA, in consultation with the Roncesvalles Village BIA and RoncyWorks, was inspired to institute a volunteer program of its own.

accomstockawardsmall.jpgMichael Comstock was a long-time advocate for his neighbourhood of St. Lawrence Market and served as president of TABIA until April 2012. Michael passed away in September, and to honour his memory, TABIA established the Michael Comstock Community Builder Award.

It is with great pleasure that we announce that the first recipient of the Michael Comstock Community Builder Award is our own Andrew Chomentowski, long-time chair of our Marketing and Promotions Committee and now Chair Emeritus of the Roncesvalles Village BIA.

    Happy Hallowe’en from Roncesvalles Village!

1975-fsm.jpgWhile everyone was having a scary good time on Roncesvalles in the days leading up to Hallowe’en, the BIA again showed its support and appreciation for the Sorauren Park Pumpkin Parade, a great Roncesvalles Village tradition, by having a local artist (Collin Szynkowski) carve a pumpkin for the parade.

There’s great coverage of the pumpkin parade in both Torontoist and BlogTO.

    Farewell to Consul General Ciesielczuk

cgciesielczuk.jpgThe Roncesvalles Village BIA has long enjoyed good relations with the Consulate General of the Republic of Poland in Toronto. Not only is the Consulate General the official patron of the Roncesvalles Polish Festival, it has partnered with the BIA in bringing great content to the Festival, and supporting many other initiatives in the Polish community, such as the Ekran Polish Film Festival, held every fall at the Revue Cinema.

After years of service to both Poland and Canada in his role of Consul General, Mr. Marek Ciesielczuk has been reassigned and is expected to return to Poland. At a ceremony on June 29 at the Consulate, Andrew Chomentowski (Chair Emeritus, RVBIA) presented Mr. Ciesielczuk with a letter of gratitude from the BIA as well as a Roncesvalles-themed gift basket.

cjopkiewiczzkk.jpgMr. Grzegorz Jopkiewicz has been elevated to Acting Consul General.

Special thanks to the businesses who contributed to the gift basket for the Consul General, including: SOHO Framing and Art, Ecotique, Another Story Bookshop, Stasis Local Preserves, The Chocolateria, and the Mercantile.

Mr. Marek Ciesielczuk is featured in the first photo. In the second, at far left: Consul Grzegorz Jopkiewicz, at far right, His Excellency Zenon Kosiniak-Kamysz, Ambassador of the Republic of Poland to Canada.

Roncesvalles Village Supports St. Joseph’s Health Centre

dsc_8923sm.gifOn June 26 St. Joseph’s Health Centre unveiled the Our Lady of Mercy Wing, which is the culmination of years of fundraising, planning and work. This four-storey addition to St. Joe’s features an expanded family birthing centre, a floor dedicated to children’s health care, and 92 beds specifically for elder care.

As usual, Roncesvalles Village showed its support at this event. Special thanks to Alternative Grounds, Mabel’s, the Chocolateria, Gurts, Barque Smokehouse, Seventh Sister Bakery and Sweetpea’s for their support of this event. RVBIA Chair Tony Cauch, also a volunteer on the board of St. Joseph’s Health Centre Foundation, attended the event on behalf of the BIA. He is pictured below with his mother.

img_2644.jpgEveryone’s getting in on the action during this year’s Euro Cup! Roncesvalles is festooned with the red and white of both the Polish and Canadian flags as Poland and Ukraine co-host the Euro Cup in 2012.

You can watch all the games in various places on Roncesvalles including:
