Serving the community, community-supported
Perhaps more than in any other BIA, our businesses thrive on the support of our local community. We provide a wide variety of shops, services and restaurants while largely remaining locally owned or managed. This makes our buisinesses uniquely responsive to the needs and wants of our community, creating a wonderful shopping or dining experience that cannot be duplicated anywhere else.
Unlike other main streets that have seen their offerings reduced or replaced by some Big Box warehouse or mall, Roncesvalles serves its community with everything from hardware stores to groceries, from corner fruit markets to dry cleaners, from bookstores to clothing stores to flower shops. Why would anyone waste time and gasoline when everything we need is just footsteps away?
A taste of Poland, a taste of the world
Our Polish restaurants, bakeries and delis are famous throughout the city. There is no better place to enjoy schnitzel, sausage, ham hocks, sauerkraut and traditional Polish pastries. Walk into one of the traditional old world restaurants and you are welcomed by Polish language, music and traditions.
But Roncesvalles also boasts fine restaurants catering to every culture or taste. Cajun, Greek, Asian, Indian and Thai restaurants can all be found here, reflecting an increasingly diverse and dynamic local community. If you are just looking for a place to relax, you have your choice of several coffee shops where you can spend an afternoon chatting or watching people pass by from the patio. In the evening, Roncesvalles comes alive with the sound of conversation and music from our many pubs and bistros.
Where creative people meet
Roncesvalles is home to many of Toronto's best writers, artists and musicians, who help to sustain important cultural venues such as the Revue Cinema (one of Canada's oldest), the High Park library, and several music clubs and lounges.
